is backing up necessary?because i got red light of death and this is much cheaper than sending it back to sony...yea and i wanted to make sure before i bought it

I updated to 250gig. None of my packups worked. Used a reformated seagate freeagent, and a thumb drive for game saves. Version 2.53 had to be loaded fresh, install was not automatic. When I got everything right it was like setting up a neew PS3. Luckily I only had game saves.

2.5 inch drives dont exist in more than 500gb and are more expensive than regular 3.5 inch drives
